Take offs are the thing I’m most afraid of being when I’m flying, I always think that the plane it’s gonna lose power and fall, this just reinforced my biggest fear. Yikes.

As an airline captain one issue I haven’t seen discussed at all is the landing gear. Nobody is mentioning something so glaringly obvious. Airlines typically retract them within seconds of becoming airborne (positive rate). Especially if you need climb performance.  Gear remained down throughout the entire sequence. 

As a seasoned aviatior I know better than to speculate until authorities have a preliminary report. But the gear tells a huge part of what might’ve occurred.

Hey! I'm an ex air india crew and this was a frequent aircraft that I'd fly. This aircraft has had issues for YEARS. Literally years. The crew, pilots, engineers, literally everyone has always mentioned about it in the log book. But the company didn't have a spare Dreamliner for their most precious Gatwick sector. Which is why we were always, made to fly this aircraft. I've myself had an engine failure on this aircraft. Thankfully we landed back safely. It was a similar case where we took off and immediately landed back without being in air for even 30 mins.
Here, no staff but solely the company is at fault. But the company won't let any staff talk about it on a public channel. They'd rather blame the staff and not take accountability.—- I found this on Instagram

That is loss of thrust or loss of lift or loss of a control surface.  I'd bet engine failure, full loss of flaps, or maybe an elevator surface failure.  That is such a gentle loss of controlled elevation while keeping the the thing flat.  It is such a symmetric loss of altitude.

I'm going to bet on tail elevator failure.  I'll put it at 5:1 odds.

It looks like for whatever reason they didn't develop enough power and didn't abort the takeoff quick enough. They used every inch of the runway which shows up as the dust cloud at the end and never developed enough speed. 

Probably a combination of flight configuration,  mechanical malfunction and pilot error.

EDIT: Also, looking at the runway, it doesn't have taxiways to the end, so they had to back-taxi to a turnaround point. I'm interested to see if they went to the one at the end of the runway or the one 2,500 ft. further down.

The plane enters a normal climb and suddenly stops climbing. It entirely points to an engine failure. You can literally see in the video the planes nose up attitude doesn’t change, he’s making a normal accelerated climb and suddenly that changes.

They’ve known from day one what the issue is - contaminated fuel. The black box isn’t going to help confirm that. Right now they’re lining up the scapegoat.

Hopefully we will soon get either evidence of pilot's error or a bunch of apologies from many many Youtubers, some of them actual captains that profited from accusing people that lost their lives without any substantial evidence. 

At this point I'm very inclined to think that something, to be determined, caused a complete electrical failure that in turn actuated the FSOV valves causing fuel starvation to both engines at the same time. It explains all the evidence we have like RAT deployment. If this is the case then maybe there's something to fix.

Hope we get some answers soon.

This is dumb and completely unrelated to the crash. This AD was started in March 2023 and was the first AD issued in January 2024. It was only updated after the crash for completely unrelated reasons. 

I’m not usually one to demand that people stop speculating, but it’s not 7am yet and I’ve already read two brain dead crash theories on this sub.

This is the second post I’ve seen that seems to try to put the blame on Boeing here. I’m not saying it’s impossible, in fact, it is unfortunately, more likely than I might say about an Airbus given their track record as of late. But let’s look at the reality of the situation, you have one of the older 787s in operation, keep in mind this is not necessarily a “brand new“ model of aircraft anymore, I think some people still have this mindset that it is only a few years old, when the first were delivered 15 years ago at this point. Add to that an airline that does not exactly have the best safety reputation. And, though it is a bit taboo to say, let’s not be unrealistic about the fact that India is still a rapidly modernizing country, it’s not inconceivable their own oversight authority, or once again, the airline, fell short somewhere. Other things to consider are fuel contamination, which I’ve heard is being looked into.

I just saw an interview of a local who said that the plane went exactly above their head and due to engine winds they were pushed to the wall.

They were on the terrace at that time, I think these interviews are really important and give us crucial organic perspectives and they have to be taken fresh as memory is weak during trauma situations.

So here is what will happen within 3-6 months you will get a preliminary report in which all the facts will be set straight but no blame will be assigned..
So you will get to see transcript of the blackbox etc and get to know what happened.

Then for another 6 months debate and discussion will take place to assign the blame and how things happened..

It was full of fuel for a long distance flight,  so very lucky that it didn't completely burn out causing much more damage on the ground. 

Hopefully with black boxes and a lot of independent footage from cameras that recorded the take off, the air crash investigation will get to root cause quickly.

Given the number of 787s in operation, any fault with the aircraft will need to be addressed very quickly.

Now they are thinking that there may have been a major mix-up and the flaps were retracted instead of the landing gear. The video just before the crash shows the gear still down and the wings flat with minimum load. They think the captain ordered the gear up but the copilot retracted the flaps instead.
